ASPCA Launches the Horse Adoption Express

A bachelor of arts in music from the Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Linda Bergerson has over a decade of experience as a music teacher in Beloit, Wisconsin. Apart from her passion for music, Linda Bergerson is an avid animal lover and supports multiple animal rescues and organizations advocating for the humane treatment of animals. One example of the latter being the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

Founded in 1866, ASPCA is the oldest non-profit organization in North America dedicated to preventing animal cruelty. In May 2021, ASPCA announced the launch of a Horse Adoption Express as part of its program, The Right Horse Initiative. The initiative unites professionals from the equine industry and welfare and aims at increasing horse adoption across the US.

ASPCA has identified that often the biggest obstacle to adoption is the distance between an adopter and their prospective horse. Drawing on its positive experience with transporting cats and dogs to locations with higher chances of finding a home for them faster, the organization decided to start the Horse Adoption Express.

Besides moving horses to areas where they are more likely to get adopted, the Horse Adoption Express will also transport horses in situations when they need specific training to increase their chances of adoption.
